A Platform for Self Publishing Authors and a Diving Board for Reckless Readers.
This site is designed for writers of talent who have given up on the large commercial imprints, and who, undaunted, have taken matters into their own hands.
In 2006 a small group of writers banded together to put two fingers up to a conservative, monopolised publishing establishment that has neither the least sense of quality nor interest in exciting new writing, and seems content to shift books like packets of soap powder. The aforementioned group published under their own independent imprints: L'OYS Press, Democritus and Poison Pen Publishing, and whilst sales have been modest so far, the word is getting out.
The web-site www.quinceyriddle.co.uk has been established to link in with press advertisements, offering an invitation to writers and independent publishers to submit works for perusal and sale, and an invitation to prospective readers to survey samples of works they find engaging.
We impose no particular restrictions on material that writers may wish to publicise other than the basics: it ought to be literate, demonstrate a love of language, and should paint its message with a quirky, original brush. Our initial offering from L'OYS Press, for example, is a play plunging the Gothic depths of the relationships between the Shelleys and Byron, from Democritus we have two novels of hilarity, despair, wit, wisdom, poetry and pun, and from Poison Pen Publishing a surreal, hallucinatory, fully illustrated and indeed, almost true account of a journey along the Silk Road.
